Jamaican Boiled Dumplings

Traditional Jamaican dumplings are a simple and hearty dish made with just a few basic ingredients. Soft and slightly springy dough balls make the perfect side dish to accompany main courses or can be enjoyed as a standalone treat.
Ingredients
- 2 l Water
- 0.5 tbsp Salt
- 240 g All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 120 ml Water
Instructions
- Pour water into a large pot, add 0.5 tablespoon of salt, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- While the water is heating, mix flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl, stirring thoroughly to distribute the salt evenly. Gradually add water, kneading the mixture with your hands until you form a smooth, uniform dough.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each piece into a smooth ball. Gently flatten each ball with your palm to create thick, round discs resembling coins.
- Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water one at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon to prevent them from sticking to each other and to the bottom of the pot.
- Boil the dumplings for 15–20 minutes until they float to the surface and are completely cooked through. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove the cooked dumplings from the boiling water using a slotted spoon and allow excess water to drain. Serve hot with your favorite main dish.
