Jamaican Braised Cabbage

A simple and aromatic dish made with fresh cabbage, vegetables, spices, and butter. Tender, melt-in-your-mouth cabbage — the perfect side dish for meat courses.
Ingredients
- 0.5 pcs Cabbage
- 2 pcs Carrots
- 1 pcs Plum tomatoes
- 1 pcs Onion
- 4 clove Garlic
- 4 pcs Green onions
- 4 pcs Thyme
- 0.5 pcs Scotch Bonnet pepper
- 2 tbsp Water
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 4 tbsp Butter
- 2 tsp Sea salt
- 1 tsp Black ground pepper
Instructions
- Cut the cabbage into thin strips, slice the carrots and onion into thin half-rings. Chop the tomatoes into pieces, and finely mince the garlic and green onions. Slice the pepper into thin strips (remove the seeds if desired). Prepare the sprigs of thyme.
- Place all the ingredients — cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, onion, garlic, green onions, thyme, pepper, water, olive oil and butter, salt and black pepper — into a large pot. Cover with a lid and place over medium heat.
- Cook on medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the vegetables cook evenly.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, until the cabbage becomes tender and soft. Remove the thyme sprigs and serve.
