Herring Under a Fur Coat

A festive layered salad with salted herring topped with a "fur coat" of beets, carrots, potatoes, and mayonnaise. Best assembled in advance to allow the flavors to meld.
Ingredients
- 2 pcs Salted herring (fillet)
- 3 pcs Potatoes
- 2 pcs Beets
- 2 pcs Carrots
- 3 pcs Eggs
- 1 pcs Onion
- to taste Mayonnaise
Instructions
- Boil the vegetables and eggs, cool, and grate them on a coarse grater separately. Finely chop the herring and onion.
- Layer on a dish, spreading mayonnaise between each layer: potatoes → herring with onion → carrots → eggs → beets.
- Spread mayonnaise over the top layer of beets. Refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours (preferably overnight) to allow the salad to absorb the flavors.
