Steamed Barbecue Buns

Soft fluffy bao buns with a savory filling of bacon in a sauce made from soy sauce, honey and tomato. Served warm.
Ingredients
- 500 g White bread mix
- 85 g Sugar
- 1 tbsp Sunflower oil
- 12 pcs Bacon
- to taste Ginger
- 2 clove Garlic
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce
- 3 tbsp Liquid honey
- 3 tbsp Tomato paste
- 1 pcs Egg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Mix the sugar into the bread mix, add water according to the package instructions. Knead the dough and continue kneading on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and leave in a warm place until doubled in size.
- Meanwhile, heat the oil and fry the bacon until crispy (~5 minutes). Add the ginger and garlic (1 minute), then the soy sauce, honey and tomato paste and mix well.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 balls. Flatten each ball, place a teaspoon of filling in the center, gather the edges into a purse shape and pinch closed. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet, cover and let rise for ~30 minutes. Brush with beaten egg and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with dipping sauce.
