Massaman Beef Curry

An aromatic Thai curry with tender beef, potatoes and peanuts, simmered in a coconut sauce. A dish with the warm spice notes of cinnamon and tamarind—the perfect choice for dinner served with jasmine rice.
Ingredients
- 85 g Peanuts
- 400 ml Coconut cream
- 4 tbsp Massaman curry paste
- 600 g Beef
- 450 g Potatoes
- 1 pcs Onion
- 4 pcs Lime
- 1 pcs Cinnamon stick
- 1 tbsp Tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp Brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Fish sauce
- 1 pcs Red chili pepper
- Jasmine rice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Spread the peanuts on a baking sheet and roast for 5 minutes until golden. Once cooled, chop them roughly.
- In a large pot with a lid on the stovetop, heat 2 tablespoons of coconut cream. Add the curry paste and fry for 1 minute. Add the beef and cook, stirring, until the meat is sealed on all sides and coated with the paste.
- Pour in the remaining coconut cream and half a can of water. Add the chopped potatoes, onion, lime leaves, cinnamon stick, tamarind paste, sugar, fish sauce and most of the peanuts. Bring to a boil, cover with the lid and transfer to the oven.
- Simmer the curry in the oven at 180°C for 2 hours until the beef is tender.
- Sprinkle with the remaining peanuts and sliced red chili. Serve directly from the pot with jasmine rice.
