Algerian Kefta (Meatballs)

Juicy beef patties in a spiced tomato sauce with ras el hanout — a hearty hot dish from Maghrebi cuisine.
Ingredients
- 454 g Ground beef
- 4 clove Garlic
- 0.5 cup Onion (chopped)
- 3 pcs Plum tomatoes
- 1 tsp Dried parsley
- 1 tsp Ras el hanout
- 0.5 cup Water
- to taste Salt
- to taste Black pepper
Instructions
- Mix the ground beef with half of the minced garlic and 1 tbsp of chopped onion. Knead with your hands and form 12–14 oval patties about 4 cm long.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a dish.
- Reduce heat to medium, add the remaining onion, salt, and pepper to the rendered fat. Cook for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add the remaining garlic (30 seconds), tomatoes, parsley, and ras el hanout. Pour in the water and cook for about 5 minutes until the tomatoes soften.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the patties and serve.
