Figs Stuffed with Walnuts in Syrup

An Albanian dessert: tender stewed figs with walnuts covered in a thick fig syrup. Simple and elegant.
Ingredients
- 4 pcs Figs
- 4 pcs Walnuts (halves)
- 150 ml Water
- 60 g Sugar
Instructions
- Trim the tough stems and halve the figs lengthwise.
- Arrange the figs cut-side up in a small skillet and pour water around the fruit.
- Cook over medium heat until the figs are tender, about 10–15 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish.
- To the reddish juice remaining in the skillet, add sugar and, stirring constantly over medium heat for a couple of minutes, reduce until you have a thick syrup. Remove from heat.
- Place a walnut half in each fig and drizzle with syrup. Serve warm or chilled.
