Dulce de Leche

An Argentine delicacy made from caramelized milk — stretchy, tender, and incredibly delicious. Perfect as a standalone dessert or as a filling for baked goods.
Ingredients
- 1 l Milk
- 300 g Sugar
- 0.25 tsp Baking soda
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and baking soda. Place over low heat and stir constantly to prevent the mixture from burning and ensure even cooking.
- Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture becomes thick and takes on a rich caramel color. This will take approximately 1.5–2 hours. Remember: low heat and constant stirring are the keys to success.
- Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract, stirring well.
- Allow the dulce de leche to cool to room temperature, then transfer to a glass jar. The dessert will thicken further as it cools.
