Burek

A juicy Balkan pastry made from the thinnest layers of crispy phyllo dough with an aromatic meat filling — the perfect street snack that's impossible to eat slowly.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onion. Heat the oil in a skillet, sauté the onion until soft, then add the ground beef and cook, stirring, until done. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Brush a round baking dish with oil. Place the first sheet of phyllo dough on the bottom, spread a thin layer of filling, cover with the next sheet and brush it well with oil. Repeat the layers (dough → filling → dough with oil) until you have 5–6 layers. Finish with a layer of phyllo dough.
  3. Place the pastry in a preheated oven and bake until golden and crispy. Remove, cut into 4 portions, and serve immediately.
