Arepa

Latin American cornmeal flatbreads—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Served as bread or filled with various toppings.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Cornmeal
- 1.3 cup Warm water
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Pour the cornmeal into a bowl and gradually add the salted warm water, kneading until a dough forms. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Shape into round flatbreads approximately 8 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm thick. Fry on a lightly oiled skillet over low heat until golden on both sides.
- Transfer the flatbreads to a baking dish and bake at 175°C for about 20 minutes—the arepas are done when they sound hollow when tapped.
- Tip: for a richer flavor, prepare the dough using chicken or beef broth instead of water.
